This chilli is a great option to incorporate iron into your little ones diet whether that’s from beef or beans. Iron stores start to deplete from 6 months of age, aim to offer iron at each mealtime just like this recipe.

Mild Chili Con Carne Recipe

Servings: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp of preferred oil
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 500g mince beef or plant-based alternative (e.g soya mince)
  • ½ red pepper (finely chopped)
  • 200g tin tomatoes
  • 400g tin of kidney beans in water (rinsed & drained)
  • 2 tbsp Little Supper Club Mild Chilli Seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt (optional 12m+)

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a pan then add the mince, cook on a high heat for 2-3 mis or until cooked through.
  • Add onions, garlic, red pepper & a splash of water.
  • Turn heat down to medium & add in the Mild Chilli Con Carne Seasoning. Mix well.
  • Throw in the tin tomatoes & kidney beans. If using, add salt.
  • Lower heat, lid on & simmer for 20-25 mins. Stir occasionally.
  • If your baby has just started weaning, pulse for 10-20 secs with a hand blender or to preferred texture.

Notes

Let baby get messy by scooping with their hands or offer a pre-loaded spoon to practice with utensils. Avoid serving crumbles of ground beef on their own, instead you can serve with rice, potato or sour cream.
